Pass

The Pass series was photographed over a period from 2010-2019 and captured out of taxi windows as they drove down the famous stretch of road known as 'Marine Drive' in Bombay, India. Pass is a study of transience. Utilizing an intentionally slow shutter speed, pedestrians begin to blur mid-stride, rendering them as streaks of motion— sometimes half-formed, sometimes in a state of vanishing. The dual movement of photographer and subject turns each frame into a collaboration between chance, movement, and the duration of an exposure in a camera.
The series is something of an homage to a kind of 'collective pedestrian' —an attempt to capture the essence of a stroll, an amble, a thoughtful pause. Pass is uninterested in the notion of freezing time; instead, it seeks to express it. There are no fixed moments here, only fleeting impressions of a particular place and a specific moment in time.
