Luminal

Luminal is a series of long-exposure photographs made in total darkness, where the human form is illuminated by hand-drawn strokes of light. As the shutter remains open, a small light source is swept around the body, recording the movement of light as it arcs and sweeps through the frame. While the model remains as still as possible, the light traces her contours and sometimes ‘draws’ additional patterns and gestures around her. Slight shifts—both in body and light—create a blend of clarity and blur, forming figures that hover in a liminal state between the ephemeral and the solid, the material and the ‘aural’.
Luminal reimagines the human form as an ethereal presence, simultaneously conveying essence and physicality. Each image is a singular, unrepeatable collaboration of form, time, and movement.
