Break

Break is an exploration of the convergence of form, in this case, the natural formation of the sea and the form of the human figure. Photographed post-sunset and into night, the images are made with an underwater housing and a semi-wide lens, creating a sense of physical proximity to both subject and wave. Flash freezes the instant a wave breaks, often capturing an explosion of water—spray, foam, and force suspended in mid-air. In some frames, slow shutter speeds allow ambient light to introduce blur and trailing droplets, suggesting secondary movement. The models are asked to remain composed—an instruction often undone by the chaos of the waves. The process is physically demanding and requires equal parts endurance and control. What emerges are moments formed in unstageable conditions, shaped by nature and chance.
